Get MixSurface talking to REAPER.

Two installs and you're connected: a small free extension on the computer running REAPER, and the MixSurface app on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone or tablet. About two minutes.

1

Install the MixSurface extension

It's free and adds MixSurface support to REAPER. Pick your platform:

Always the latest build.

macOS: unzip, then double-click the .pkg and follow the installer.

macOS, portable REAPER: open the .dmg and copy reaper_mixsurface.dylib into the UserPlugins folder beside your portable REAPER.app.

Windows: unzip, then copy reaper_mixsurface.dll into %APPDATA%\REAPER\UserPlugins\.

Linux (beta): unpack, then run ./mixsurface-extension/install.sh. It copies reaper_mixsurface.so into ~/.config/REAPER/UserPlugins/ (for a portable REAPER, pass its folder: install.sh ~/opt/REAPER). Needs glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 and later). If a firewall is on, allow UDP 5353, UDP 24780 and TCP 24790.

2

Enable it in REAPER

  1. Open REAPER → Settings / Preferences (⌘, / Ctrl+P).
  2. Go to Control / OSC / web.
  3. Click Add, choose MixSurface, and click OK.
If MixSurface doesn't appear in the list, fully quit and reopen REAPER once after installing, then try Add again.
3

Connect your phone or tablet

  1. Put your device on the same Wi-Fi / network as the computer running REAPER.
  2. Open the MixSurface app (get it from the App Store or Google Play). It finds your computer automatically.
  3. Tap your computer to connect. On iPhone and iPad, the first launch asks for Local Network permission. Tap Allow.

That's it. Faders move, the EQ responds, and you're mixing from across the room.

Not connecting?

The app doesn't find my computer

Both devices must be on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi and some corporate networks block device-to-device discovery. Use a normal home/studio network. Make sure you tapped Allow on the Local Network prompt (Settings → MixSurface → Local Network if you missed it).

A firewall is blocking it

Allow REAPER through your computer's firewall. On macOS: System Settings → Network → Firewall → Options → allow incoming connections for REAPER.

macOS says the extension can't be opened

The download is signed and notarized, so this shouldn't happen. If it does, the file may have been altered in transit. Re-download the .pkg from the official link above.
